Lee snaps record
South Korea’s Lee Sang-hwa on Friday broke the world record in the women’s 500 meters in a World Cup speedskating meet in Kearns, Utah. Reigning Olympic and world champion Lee crossed the finish line in 36.57 seconds, lowering the global mark of 36.74 she set last Saturday in the season’s opening World Cup stop at Calgary, Canada. Lee had owned the world record before this month as well with a January win at Calgary in 36.80. China’s Wang Beixing was second in 36.85, .12 ahead of American Heather Richardson in third.
