RUSSIAN star Evgeni Plushenko fell in the short program on Thursday and dropped out of the European figure skating championships in Zagreb with a back problem.
Florent Amodio of France took the lead in the men's competition. Also, Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov of Russia retained the pairs title, ahead of Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy of Germany. Plushenko fell while trying to execute a triple axel and placed sixth before deciding to drop out of today's free skate. He aggravated a chronic back condition.
