Wang ruled out of world championships

CHINA'S Winter Olympic champion Wang Meng is not going to compete at the world short track speedskating championships in Shanghai next month.
Zhao Yinggang, director of China's winter sports administration center, said that the center had not yet finalized its list of athletes for Shanghai but did say that Wang will not be in the squad as she had not been selected to the national team.
The championships will be held at the Oriental Sports Center from March 9-11.
"There are some changes in our team this year and we haven't decided on anyone for the championships. But Wang is not among the probables," Zhao said. "The athletes have been preparing for the event and getting into shape."
Wang, who won gold medals in the women's 500, 1,000 and 3,000m relay at the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games in 2010, was kicked out of the national team last August after clashing with team leader Wang Chunlu after a night out.
The 26-year-old Wang, who also won the 500m in Turin in 2006, has returned to the provincial team since then.
"The door for Wang is not closed, " Zhao said. "We hope she makes a return to the national side with her performance and good attitude."
Young skaters Fan Kexin, Liu Qiuhong and Liang Wenhao are likely to make the squad, but there is uncertainty over Zhou Yang, the country's youngest Winter Olympic champion, as well. "Zhou is not in her best shape and she's not even the best in the team," Zhao said, adding the final list will be ready next week.
