Miller back in 'miraculous' form on slopes

BODE Miller said it took a miracle for him to surge back and win his first World Cup downhill in three years in Beaver Creek on Friday.

The 34-year-old American, who had only won one World Cup race in the last three seasons, took advantage of an early start and better visibility to clock the fastest time in one minute and 43.82 seconds.

"I'm not afraid to say that it's a miracle what I pulled out to do on the pitch today," he said. "One out of three times, you try to do it and it works, but one time you end up in the nets and the other time at the hospital. It's all about the win sometimes, and others all about skiing."

In Lake Louise, Alberta, Lindsey Vonn won the World Cup women's downhill for her ninth career victory at the resort. The American star finished in one minute, 53.19 seconds to beat Liechtenstein's Tina Weirather by 1.95 seconds.
