Vonn takes super-G to extend lead

LINDSEY Vonn of the United States won a super-G race on the Marc Girardelli course in Bansko, Bulgaria, yesterday - her 10th World Cup victory of the season - to increase her lead in the discipline standings.

The American won in 1 minute, 15.66 seconds, edging Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein, who finished 0.05 seconds behind. Italy's Daniela Merighetti was third, 0.07 seconds back.

"The course was difficult, pretty bumpy at some points, and very challenging," the 27-year-old Vonn said after posting her 18th career World Cup super-G win to pass Austrian Renate Goetschl in the record books.

Vonn held a 20-point lead over Anna Fenninger going into this final super-G of the regular season. However, after the Austrian finished 10th, Vonn stretched her advantage to 94 points ahead of the World Cup finals.

Meanwhile, Vonn's overall lead is a massive 528-point margin with nine races left in the season.

Julia Mancuso finished eighth, 0.65 seconds behind, jumping into third place in the super-G standings.
