Worley grabs hat-trick of wins
FRANCE'S Tessa Worley continued her domination of women's giant slalom by winning her third race in succession in Semmering in Austria yesterday.
The 21-year-old, a winner in Aspen and St Moritz this season, took top place on the podium with a combined time of two minutes and 9.66 seconds.
Worley, who has an Australian father and spent her childhood in New Zealand, beat the German pair of Maria Riesch and Kathrin Hoelzl. Slalom world champion Riesch was 0.62 seconds behind but claimed back the overall world Cup top spot.
On 658 points, the German allrounder now leads her American rival and friend Lindsey Vonn by 41 points.
World champion Hoelzl finished 0.78 seconds behind.
"Three victories is much more than I expected. My ski is much more stable this season and I can do whatever I want without many mistakes. That's the key," Worley said.
Asked if she had a New Year resolution to make she said: "If I start the year the way I finished this one, it would be nice."
In Bormio, Italy, Canadian skier Louis-Pierre Helie and Marco Sullivan of the United States were both airlifted to a local hospital after crashing in a World Cup downhill training session yesterday.
Helie's crash appeared more serious, involving a hard landing, and he was picked up from the icy Stelvio course by a helicopter. The Canadian team said he suffered a head injury.
