360buy.com sponsors Super League
BEIJING-BASED B2C site 360buy.com has signed with Chinese Football Association's Super League to become its main sponsor this year in an effort to entice more consumers to shop online.
"We hope to take advantage of Chinese Super League to spread the word about online shopping and our online store," said Xu Lei, the company's vice president.
Media reports said sponsor fees will be above US$1 million, but the company declined to release the figure.
Its advertisements will be shown on billboards at football stadiums in 16 first-tier cities which hold the super league. Fans will also be able to buy football-related products at 360buy.com.
Earlier this month, the B2C site acquired a smaller domestic company specializing in home commodities and clothes to expand its product line.
In January, it raised US$150 million from Tiger Global Management and other institutional investors in its latest round of funding.
The capital will be used to expand logistic operation centers to meet increasing user demand, chief executive officer Liu Qiangdong told a recent media briefing.
B2C sales revenue from domestic sites reached 22 billion yuan in 2009, more than doubled the 8.1 billion yuan in 20008, according to Analysys International.
