Acosta gives Sevilla edge in Copa last four

ARGENTINE striker Lautaro Acosta scored an injury-time winner to give Sevilla a 2-1 victory at home to Athletic Bilbao in their Copa del Rey semifinal first leg on Wednesday.

Fernando Llorente had headed the visitors in front just before halftime, but Sevilla stormed back after the break.

Aldo Duscher leveled though it looked as though Bilbao would hang on for the draw after Frederic Kanoute's 84th-minute penalty was saved, before substitute Acosta scrambled the winner in injury time.

The match was 15 minutes late in starting after a cloudburst soaked the pitch.

The second semifinal first leg pits runaway Primera Liga leader Barcelona against bottom club Real Mallorca.

In Italy, Juventus beat Napoli 4-3 on penalties at home on Wednesday after a goalless draw to book a meeting with Lazio in the Italian Cup semifinals.

Napoli midfielder Walter Gargano had the decisive miss, while his teammates Ezequiel Lavezzi and Matteo Contini also failed with their spot-kicks, as did Juve's Pavel Nedved and Momo Sissoko.

Apart from a lively spell by Lavezzi at the start of the second half and his Napoli teammate Paolo Cannavaro almost diverting the ball into his own net in the 69th minute, it was an uneventful game.

Serie A champion Inter Milan will take on Sampdoria in the other semifinal.

In France, second-division Vannes surprised Nice 4-3 in a penalty shootout on Wednesday to set up a French League Cup final against Bordeaux.

Vannes became the first club from the second division to reach the final since Gueugnon in 2000.

Bordeaux cruised past defending champion Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 to reach the final on March 29.
