Adebayor threatens to quit Eastlands

PLAYER unrest at Manchester City remains a major challenge heading into tomorrow's Premier League match at Sunderland.

Another offseason spending spree has left coach Roberto Mancini unable to satisfy the demands of all his star players. Striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who signed from Arsenal in July 2009, has played less than 10 minutes of the team's opening two Premier League matches.

Adebayor could now leave before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, telling Talk Sport radio that if "you're not playing, and there is a team that comes in for me, then definitely I will be on my way out."

Meanwhile, Barcelona has agreed a transfer fee with Liverpool for Javier Mascherano and the Argentine midfielder is expected in Spain for a medical this weekend.

The Argentina captain has been linked with a move away from Liverpool for much of the summer with Barcelona as well Inter Milan keen on his services.

Liverpool coach Roy Hodgson had hoped the 26-year-old would stay on but had left the player out of its recent matches against City and Turkey's Trabzonspor as speculation over a transfer grew.

Spanish media reported the deal was worth around 22 million euros (US$28 million).

Barcelona is still locked in negotiations with AC Milan to sell Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic before the end of the transfer window.

Also, Juventus sold Brazilian playmaker Diego to VfL Wolfsburg for 15.5 million euros (US$19.7 million), almost 10 million euros less than it paid for him last year. Wolfsburg said the Diego's contract runs until 2014.
