Ancelotti in trouble for showing the finger to fans
BAYERN Munich’s Carlo Ancelotti could be in hot water with the German FA (DFB) after showing the middle finger to Hertha Berlin fans who, he claims, spat at him.
“Yes, I made the gesture after being spat at,” Bayern’s coach told broadcaster ARD.
Hertha fans were enraged after Bayern equalized with a Robert Lewandowski goal in the 96th-minute at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium on Saturday to snatch a 1-1 draw which left the Bavarians eight points clear in the Bundesliga. The middle finger gesture happened as Ancelotti walked towards the players’ tunnel in Berlin.
Kicker magazine said the DFB is poised to investigate both Ancelotti and Hertha’s goalkeeper Rune Jarstein, who kicked a ball which struck Bayern’s Xabi Alonso. Hertha’s coach Pal Dardai later branded the six minutes of added time a ‘Bayern’s bonus’ and tempers frayed on the pitch as Lewandowski equalized just seconds before the referee blew the final whistle.
In France, Mario Balotelli appears to be on a slippery slope after being sent off for dissent in a Ligue 1 game on Saturday.
The Italian striker was shown a straight red card — his second of the season — in the 68th minute of Nice’s 1-0 win at Lorient, with referee Tony Chapron telling L’Equipe: “He insulted me in English. I won’t say more but it was something classical.”
“Is he victim of his reputation? Do you think it was a red card because it was Balotelli? It’s ridiculous,” Favre said. “If there is enough for a red card, they send off, if there is not enough, they do not send off,” Nice coach Lucien Favre wondered.
