Ancelotti urges Blues to hold their nerve

CHELSEA coach Carlo Ancelotti urged his side not to lose their nerve after a bad week in which the London side crashed out of the Champions League ended with them losing ground on Manchester United in the title race.

Five days after his side were eliminated from the Champions League by Inter Milan, Ancelotti watched in frustration as his men were held to a 1-1 Premier League draw at Ewood Park by Blackburn Rovers.

Chelsea grabbed the early initiative when Didier Drogba scored his 22nd league goal of the season, but Rovers pulled level 20 minutes from time.

Chelsea failed to deal with a Michel Salgado cross which El-Hadji Diouf headed home at the far post to give Blackburn a share of the points, despite late and intense Chelsea pressure.

"It's a difficult moment but we don't have to lose our confidence," he said.

"We tried to play football in the second half, but we lost some confidence in our play. They put more pressure on us ... we tried after they equalized but we were unlucky.

"It's been a hard week but every week is a hard week. Now we have to work hard and prepare for Wednesday's match at Portsmouth."

Ancelotti admitted: "It is harder now to win the league but we still have a lot of chances to finish in first place and must just keep going."

Manchester United is top with 69 points, Arsenal is second with 67 and Chelsea third with 65.

The race for fourth place also intensified with Tottenham Hotspur remaining fourth on 55 points, two ahead of Manchester City which won 2-1 at Fulham.

City maintained its drive to finish fourth with goals from Roque Santa Cruz and Carlos Tevez giving it a 2-1 win at Fulham.

Danny Murphy scored from the spot for the visitors.
