Anelka says Drogba unlikely to come
FRENCH striker and Shanghai Shenhua's player-coach Nicolas Anelka yesterday claimed that his former Chelsea teammate Didier Drogba may not be joining him in China.
Anelka said that he had spoken to Drogba and the Ivory Coast international had reached a decision over his future.
"We spoke privately and I've known his decision," Anelka told reporters yesterday. "It won't be proper to tell you more right now but if Drogba decides to stay back at Chelsea that will be because he wants to stay and Chelsea wants him (to stay) as well."
Drogba's Chinese agent, surnamed Fan, also hinted that Drogba was likely to stay back in London.
"According to my information, Chelsea is preparing a two-year contract for Drogba before the final of the Champions League," Fan said on his microblog. "So...that would be a pity...Shanghai."
But Anelka said if the 34-year-old Ivory Coast striker rejected a move to Shanghai, it should not disappoint the fans.
"If Drogba cannot come to Shanghai, then there are no regrets because the world still has many other fine players," said Anelka, 33, who joined Shenhua in January this year and was named player-coach shortly before Shenhua sacked French head coach Jean Tigana last month after a poor start to the season.
