Arsenal up to second after win at Everton
GOALS from Bacary Sagna and Cesc Fabregas gave Arsenal a 2-1 win at Everton yesterday to lift it above Manchester United into second place in the English Premier League.
Full back Sagna, with only his second goal for Arsenal in over 140 matches, opened the scoring when he fired past Tim Howard at the near post after 36 minutes and Fabregas added the second three minutes into the second half.
Arsenal, which thrashed Everton 6-1 win at Goodison Park on the opening day of last season, dominated for much of the game but had to hang on at the end after Tim Cahill scored for Everton in the dying minutes.
Chelsea, which was facing Sunderland at Stamford Bridge later, leads the standings on 28 points, with Arsenal on 26 and United third on 25 following its 2-2 draw at Aston Villa on Saturday
Federico Macheda and Nemanja Vidic struck late goals to maintain United's unbeaten start to the season.
While a draw represented a good result for the red half of Manchester, a point was failure for the blue half.
Fourth-placed Manchester City's unconvincing push for the title received a setback when it failed to score at home for the third successive match after being held to a 0-0 draw in a boring match at Eastlands by lowly Birmingham City.
Liverpool's climb up the table was halted in its tracks when Stoke City beat the Reds for the first time in 26 years, winning the evening kickoff 2-0 at the Britannia Stadium.
Injury-hit Tottenham Hotspur was the highest scorers, beating Blackburn Rovers 4-2 at White Hart Lane with Gareth Bales scoring twice to help his team climb one place to sixth and end a four-match run without a win.
