Barca's Pedro nets remarkable feat

BARCELONA forward Pedro completed the remarkable feat of scoring in all six competitions the Catalan giants have played in this season when he found the net in Wednesday's 3-1 win over Atlante at the Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi.

The 22-year-old Spaniard bagged Barcelona's final goal against the Mexican side, pouncing on an angled through ball from Andres Iniesta to sidefoot home in the 67th minute.

Pedro had already scored in the La Liga, Cope del Rey, Champions League and the Spanish and European Super Cups.

Barcelona, which rallied from a goal down, will play Libertadores Cup winner Estudiantes in the final.

"I'm going to give my shirt to my family," Pedro told reporters. "I played my usual game waiting for the chance to score. I was calm. "(The victory) cost us quite a lot ... but we created chances, we got some goals...got to the final, which will be another hard match."

Coach Pep Guardiola also paid tribute to the young striker, who has proved an able foil to Ballon D'Or winner Lionel Messi and record signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Barcelona's all-conquering team.

"Pedro is very good of course," Guardiola said. "The job was done by all the players. What (Pedro) did is very important, his goal was so good."

Youth academy

Pedro is known to Guardiola, who has often used players from Barcelona's youth academy.

Also, Lionel Messi scored within two minutes of coming on as a substitute to help in Barcelona's comeback win.

Forward Guillermo Rojas put the CONCACAF champion ahead in the fifth minute and midfielder Sergio Busquets equalized for Barcelona after 35 minutes.

Ballon d'Or winner Messi came off the bench to wild cheers from the near-capacity 40,952 crowd at the Zayed Sports City in the 53rd minute and put the European champion ahead almost immediately.

"When he (Messi) goes on to the pitch the dimension changes completely - he comes from a different galaxy," Atlante coach Jose Guadalupe Cruz said.

"You have to recognise that he's brilliant but also the team coordination helps a lot."

Earlier, Auckland City finished fifth after beating African champion Mazembe 3-2.
