Bayern loans Shaqiri to Inter, Valdes joins United
Inter has snared its second biggest name of the winter transfer market after agreeing terms with Bayern Munich for forward Xherdan Shaqiri.
Inter completed the loan signing of Lukas Podolski from Arsenal last week and the Serie A giant is now set to welcome Shaqiri to the San Siro on a similar deal after club officials flew to Munich to conclude talks with Bayern.
Media reports said Shaqiri, who has not played regularly at Bayern in the face of competition from Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, would sign a six-month loan deal that has cost Inter 2 million euros (US$2.3m) but could join Inter permanently on a four-year deal worth another 14 million euros at the end of the season.
In England, Manchester United signed former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes as a backup to fellow Spaniard David de Gea. The 32-year-old Valdes, who has been at United training with the first team since October while rehabilitating from a knee injury, signed an 18-month contract, with the option for a further year.
“He joins the club as the No. 2 goalkeeper and is a great addition,” United manager Louis van Gaal said.
