Bayern wary as Gunners await

Bayern Munich heads to London for tomorrow’s Champions League match against Arsenal buoyed after setting more Bundesliga records, but wary of the winless Gunners.

Top faces bottom in Group F at the Emirates Stadium with Pep Guardiola’s Bavarians beating Olympiakos and Dinamo Zagreb in their first two matches and Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal losing in Croatia and at home to the Greek champion.

Bayern tuned up for the trip by grinding out a 1-0 win at Werder Bremen on Saturday as Thomas Mueller’s first-half goal — his ninth of the season — was enough to give it a ninth straight win at the start of the campaign, a new Bundesliga record.

The Germans are all too aware that Arsenal needs a win to keep alive its dreams of reaching the knockout stages. “We have won the first nine games, there is a long way to go, but it is impressive how much this teams wants it,” said Bayern captain Philipp Lahm. “It won’t be easy (in London), but we’re ready. Arsenal are definitely better than zero points from two games.”

With a seven-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table already, Bayern is on course to become the first side to win four straight Bundesliga titles.

Arsenal, meanwhile, is fresh from beating Watford 3-0 away on Saturday in the Premier League thanks to three second-half goals. The victory moved the Gunners up to second, ahead of Manchester United on goal difference and two points behind leader Manchester City. United beat Everton 3-0 away while City thumped visiting Bournemouth 5-1.
