Bayern wins to close in on Dortmund
ARJEN Robben earned a labored 1-0 win for Bayern Munich over FC Nuremberg in the 184th Bavarian derby yesterday, moving his side within three points of German Bundesliga leader Borussia Dortmund.
Robben scored in the 69th minute, firing to the left of Raphael Schaefer after the goalkeeper had saved Franck Ribery's initial effort.
Bayern is three points behind Dortmund with six rounds to play. They meet in Dortmund on April 11. Dortmund has 63 points to Bayern's 60.
FC Cologne dropped into the relegation playoff place after losing 1-2 to fellow struggler Augsburg while two other relegation candidates both won.
Hamburger SV ended a losing run with a 1-0 win at hapless bottom club Kaiserslautern and SC Freiburg continued its impressive climb out of danger by winning 2-0 at Bayer Leverkusen.
Werder Bremen slumped to a 0-3 home defeat by Mainz 05.
Hertha Berlin was scheduled to host VfL Wolfsburg later.
Dortmund was held to a stunning 4-4 draw at home to VfB Stuttgart on Friday, courtesy of a last-gasp goal by Christian Gentner.
Gentner scored in stoppage time at the end of a stunning game that saw Dortmund lead 2-0 before Stuttgart scored three goals in nine minutes in the second half.
"That was a crazy game," said Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp. "I have never been part of a game with such a change in score."
