Beckham's Galaxy one step closer towards MLS title

BECKHAM'S Los Angeles Galaxy became one step closer towards their second straight Major League Soccer title yesterday as the defending champions trounced Seattle Sounders 3-0 in the first leg of the Western Conference finals.

Ireland international Robbie Keane scored two goals for Galaxy and also set up for Mike Magee to add another in the scoreboard.

Keane broke the deadlock in the dying minutes of the first half after he headed in Landon Donovan's fine cross from the far post.

The Irish striker contributed to double Galaxy's lead 64 minutes into the match as he launched a counter-attack which saw Magee sign his name on the scoring list.

Three minutes later, Keane clinched the convincing victory for Galaxy who will travel to Seattle next Sunday in the return leg with a comfortable 3-0 aggregate margin.

In the Eastern Conference opener Houston Dynamo beat D.C. United 3-1 early yesterday, also building up a two-goal safety cushion into the second leg.

If Galaxy and Dynamo both make it into the MLS Cup final, it would be a rematch of last year's final clash which David Beckham and the Galaxy won at Home Depot Center.
