Benzema is 'not at ease' with France

REAL Madrid striker Karim Benzema says he doesn't feel at ease when he plays for France.

The 21-year-old forward, who joined Madrid during the offseason from Lyon, told French television that "it doesn't go well" for him when he plays under Raymond Domenech.

"Everything is great with my club but with the France team, I don't know, it doesn't go well," Benzema said. "I don't play the same, I'm not confident."

Benzema has scored six goals in 25 games for France. After a promising start two years ago, he gradually lost Domenech's confidence and has not started an important game for more than a year.

Asked about his relationship with the coach, Benzema sought to avoid any controversy.

"I don't have a problem with him. You should ask him if he has a problem with me," said Benzema, who has scored three goals in four for Real.

Benzema was harshly criticized by Domenech for his attitude earlier this month when the striker took too much time before replacing Yoann Gourcuff in a 1-1 draw against Romania in a World Cup qualifier.

Meanwhile in the French league on Sunday, a first half goal by Brazilian midfielder Geraldo Wendel gave Bordeaux a 1-0 win over Rennes that took the defending champion back to the top. Rennes slumped to its first defeat and dropped to fifth, with 12 points.
