Berbatov closes in on Fulham move

MANCHESTER United striker Dimitar Berbatov is having a medical at Fulham, the London club said yesterday.

The former Bulgarian international was expected to move to Fiorentina but the Serie A team said he failed to turn up in Italy on Wednesday.

"(Coach) Martin Jol reveals that Dimitar Berbatov is currently undergoing a medical at Fulham," the Premier League club said.

Berbatov played under Jol when the Dutchman was in charge of Tottenham Hotspur. The forward left White Hart Lane for Old Trafford in 2008. The 31-year-old has struggled to hold down a place in the United first team and seemed set for a move to Fiorentina.

"The player embarked in the company of his agent and with tickets paid by Fiorentina on a direct flight to Florence," the Italian club said. "But the player never arrived."

Meanwhile, Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar has agreed a four-year deal with Queens Park Rangers, the Premier League club said. The 32 year-old has been capped 64 times by his country. During his seven years at Inter Milan, Julio Cesar won the Champions League and five Italian titles.
