Bin Hammam plans announcement on FIFA presidency
MOHAMED bin Hammam appears set to announce Friday whether he will challenge Sepp Blatter for the FIFA presidency in June's election.
The Asian Football Confederation says its Qatari president is planning a news conference at its Malaysian headquarters to "clarify his position regarding the FIFA presidency elections."
Bin Hammam has served on FIFA's executive committee since 1996. He has dropped hints that he might vie against Blatter.
The Swiss incumbent has been FIFA president since 1998 and is up for re-election for a fourth four-year term in the June 1 vote by the FIFA Congress.
Bin Hammam is also scheduled to address reporters in Malaysia tomorrow after signing an agreement with English Premier League club Chelsea on supporting Asian football development programs.
