Bottom side Granada in Sevilla upset

GRANADA scored two late goals to rally for a 2-1 win at Sevilla on Monday in the Spanish league.

Manu del Moral put Sevilla ahead 38 seconds in, but goalkeeper Roberto Fernandez kept Granada in the Andalucian derby with a number of saves throughout.

Alexandre Geijo sparked the visitors' comeback when he headed home Odion Ighalo's strike that came off the crossbar in the 79th, and Mikel Rico secured Granada's second win of the season when he left-footed a headed pass by Ighalo into the net in the 90th.

The win lifted Granada out of last place and dealt fifth-place Sevilla its first loss of the season.

Granada, which returned to the topflight this summer after 35 years in Spain's lower divisions, had previously scored a league-worst two goals.

"The season didn't begin well for us, but I have always maintained the same message of keeping the faith," said Granada coach Fabricio Gonzalez. "I know this team can compete and I fully believe in its players. This win will give us the boost we needed."

Over the weekend, Real Madrid moved to the top of the table with a 1-0 at Real Sociedad as surprise pacesetter Levante lost 2-0 at Osasuna, slipping two points behind into third place.

Defending champion Barcelona kept pace at one point behind Madrid after thrashing Mallorca 5-0 thanks to Lionel Messi's hat-trick.
