Brazil cuts Argentina gap at top of FIFA rankings
BRAZIL has leapfrogged World Cup holder Germany into second place in the latest FIFA world rankings released yesterday, narrowing the gap on its traditional rival Argentina, which is still the world’s top-ranked team.
Brazil has won its last six World Cup qualifiers, and beat Argentina 3-0 earlier this month. Chile has climbed above Belgium and Colombia into fourth place in the rankings, while Wales and England have dropped a place each into 12th and 13th, respectively, with Ireland climbing 10 places to break into the top-25. Iran leads Asian teams at No. 30, falling three places, while Senegal is Africa’s top-ranked team at No. 33. The next set of FIFA World Rankings will be released on December 22.
