Brazil drops out of top 10

BRAZIL slumped to 11th in the FIFA rankings yesterday, its lowest ever position, while tiny Tahiti surged 41 places after its astonishing win at the Oceania Nations Cup.

Performances at Euro 2012 had an impact on places, with winner Spain staying top, semifinalist Germany moving up a spot to second and runner-up Italy jumped from 12th to sixth.

England rose two places to No. 4 despite failing to reach the semifinals of every major tournament since 1996. Portugal's run to the Euro 2012 semifinals lifted it five places to No. 5. The Netherlands slumped from fourth to eighth after their first-round exit at Euro 2012. Croatia and Denmark completed the top 10.

China bettered its spot, moving up to 68 from previous 73.

Brazil dropped out of the top 10 for the first time since the rankings began in 1993 following defeats to Mexico and Argentina in friendlies last month. The 2014 World Cup host also suffered by not having played any competitive internationals since last year's Copa America.
