CFA Seeks To Limit Foreign Players In CSL Matches

CHINESE Super League clubs received a letter from the Chinese Football Association yesterday, soliciting their opinion on a move to decrease the number of foreign players allowed in the 18-member entry list for each match.

The current “4+1” policy allows a total of five foreign players — one has to be Asian — in the 18-member entry list for each CSL match, while four of them — one has to be Asian — are allowed on the pitch at the same time. The CFA is planning to change “4+1” to “3+1”, which matches with the Asian Football Confederation’s foreign player policy in the AFC Champions League.

Extra foreign players can still be registered with the clubs, though the head coach has to decide whom to drop from the 18-member list for each match. The new policy could be put into use starting from the 2018 CSL season.
