CFA says no evidence of Hulk punch
THE Chinese Football Association said yesterday that there was no evidence that Shanghai SIPG’s Hulk punched a Guizhou assistant coach.
The Brazil striker was accused of punching Guizhou Hengfeng Zhicheng FC’s assistant coach Yu Ming in the players’ tunnel during the interval of their Chinese Super League match on Saturday, which SIPG won 3-0.
Guizhou head coach Li Bing, who was replaced by former Shanghai Greenland Shenhua manager Gregorio Manzano on Monday, told a post-match press conference that Yu had been punched and fell to the ground.
Both SIPG and Hulk denied the attack in later statements. Guizhou then called for a probe into the alleged brawl.
“There was a conflict between the two sides. But according to our investigation, it didn’t involve any violation of regulations,” Li Lipeng, a CFA official in charge of professional league management, said yesterday. “It’s normal that both clubs were keen to win. There were some fierce moments at the end of the first half, and the emotion was carried into the half-time break, which was understandable. But the conflict was not as serious as some imagined.”
Both teams had sent staff to Beijing in the past two days to hand in supporting material to the CFA.
Hulk scored in the second half of SIPG’s win at Shanghai Stadium on Saturday. It was his 8th goal in 12 appearances for the team in both CSL and AFC Champions League matches.
SIPG is taking on Western Sydney Wanderers in their last ACL group stage match today. With SIPG already advancing to the knockout round, head coach Andre Villas-Boas left Hulk and his compatriot Oscar in Shanghai, and will rotate the squad for the match in Sydney.
