Cahill joins Melbourne

FORMER Shanghai Greenland Shenhua and Hangzhou Greentown player Tim Cahill has signed a three-year deal with Melbourne City FC, the A-League side announced on its official website.
“Melbourne City FC is delighted to announce the signing of Australia’s all-time highest goal scorer,” said the statement. “The deal is in two parts: a two-year playing contract with a third year as part of City Football Group’s coaching team. He will wear squad No. 17.” According to the club, the 36-year-old, who departed the Chinese Super League last month, will start training with his team on August 15. “I am excited about the quality of the squad that I am joining and the opportunity to win silverware,” said Cahill. Melbourne finished fourth in last season’s 10-team A-League.
