Camoranesi leads Juventus to win over Atalanta

TWO Mauro Camoranesi goals within two minutes helped Juventus to a 5-2 win at Atalanta in Serie A yesterday.

Camoranesi scored in the 36th and 37th minutes to give Juventus a 2-0 halftime lead. Atalanta pulled within a goal twice after Jaime Valdes and Fabio Caravolo scored on either side of Felipe Melo's 55th-minute goal, but Diego and David Trezeguet put the game beyond reach.

"Of course I'm delighted," Trezeguet said. "We are at an important point of the season and no one knew which Juventus would show up tonight. Tonight was a good performance, the team was very slick."

The win puts Juventus four points behind league leader Inter Milan, ahead of its match against AS Roma today. Inter has 28 points, Juventus is second with 24, Sampdoria in third has 21 and AC Milan is fourth with 19.

Juventus went in front with an unlikely header from the diminutive Camoranesi, who nodded in Fabio Grosso's cross at the near post in the 36th. The winger doubled the lead less than a minute later with a shot from the edge of the area after Atalanta's defense failed to clear the ball.

Atalanta gave Juventus cause for concern in the 51st when Valdes pulled a goal back with a low shot under Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

The home's sides failure to clear the danger came back to haunt them again when Melo grabbed Juventus' third with a long range effort from another weak clearance.

But Juventus' poor defending again allowed Atalanta back into the game when Caravolo cut inside Grosso in the 71st and curled a shot past Buffon.

With five minutes to go, Diego was first to Camoranesi's cross and the Brazilian poked the ball under Atalanta stopper Andrea Consigli.

David Trezeguet added the fifth when he fired home Giorgio Chiellini's low cross.

"I worked hard in the summer and unfortunately I had to replace an injured teammate," Trezeguet said. "But I needed to come back after missing most of last season."

Also yesterday, Napoli drew 0-0 away to Catania and missed out on moving into the top four.

Catania's Takayuki Morimoto had the best chance of the match but Napoli goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis blocked the shot.
