Capello happy with Russia's World Cup start

RUSSIA manager Fabio Capello said he was pleased with his team's confident start to the 2014 football World Cup qualifying campaign but warned fans against any early euphoria.

"Yes, without doubt we had a good start," Soviet Sport daily quoted Capello as saying yesterday after his side's 4-0 demolition of Israel. "But we are just at the beginning of a long, long quest for a pass to Brazil."

"Six points and six goals in two matches - it's excellent. But it's definitely not enough. Besides, I'm much more happy with no goals allowed in than with six scored. Keeping our net clean boosts self-confidence just like the victory itself."

The Italian said that he was happy with his team's performance in his second competitive game in charge.

"We started well but lost control of the play at the end of the first halftime giving the hosts chances to score. But after the break we were in command again. Injuries to three of our three players is the only thing that upsets me after the match," Capello said.
