Cech and Carrick out of Shield tie
CZECH international goalkeeper Petr Cech and England midfielder Michael Carrick will miss the curtain-raiser to the English season when Chelsea plays Manchester United in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium tomorrow.
Carrick injured an ankle in United's 7-1 win over the League of Ireland on Wednesday and is likely to sideline him for the Premier League's opening matches. Cech, who saved two spot kicks when his side beat United on penalties in last year's Community Shield match, has a calf injury but is expected to be fit by next Saturday when the Blues kick off the season with a home match against West Bromwich Albion.
