Champ PSG extends Blanc deal
PARIS Saint-Germain has extended coach Laurent Blanc’s contract to June 2016, a day after he guided the club to a fourth French league title.
Frenchman Blanc was not even the club’s first choice to succeed Italian Carlo Ancelotti last summer, but he has outdone his predecessor by leading PSG to a league and League Cup double.
PSG President Nasser al-Khelaifi said: “We are very happy with the outstanding season achieved by our team and with the elegant and successful style of play introduced by Laurent Blanc.”
He added that “renewing our confidence in him was legitimate and self-evident”.
PSG retained the Ligue 1 title on Wednesday with two matches to spare despite stumbling to a 1-2 home defeat to Rennes, relying on rival Monaco’s 1-1 draw at home to Guingamp earlier. Second-place Monaco dropped seven points behind, meaning PSG could afford to lose in the late kickoff.
