China Picks Home-Based Players For Asian Cup
SCHALKE 04 midfielder Hao Junmin is the only foreign-based player in China's 23-man squad for next month's Asian Cup in Qatar.
The Chinese Football Association kept faith in domestic league players in picking a squad containing three goalkeepers, eight defenders, 10 midfielders and two forwards for the continental championship.
Wuhan-born 23-year-old Hao became the first Chinese player to play for Schalke 04, having joined the Bundesliga side early this year.
China is in Group A with host Qatar, Kuwait and Uzbekistan in the January 7-29 championship.
Shanghai Shenhua's Yu Tao made the squad as did his former teammate Du Wei, who now plays for Zhejiang Greentown.
Zhang Linpeng of League One side Shanghai East Asia was also included.
