Chinese FA probes Tianjin derby thrashing

The Chinese Football Association has launched an investigation into the Tianjin derby after relegation-threatened Teda stunned Fabio Cannavaro’s heavily fancied Quanjian 4-1 in the Chinese Super League.

Ghana’s Frank Acheampong scored twice in two first-half minutes at home on Saturday as Teda buried its city rival to boost its chances of avoiding relegation from the CSL with five games to go. It was Teda’s first win in nearly four months and the one-sided result raised eyebrows. Brazil striker Alexandre Pato pulled one back for Quanjian, which is fourth in the table. The CFA said in a statement on Weibo: “The Chinese Football Association has launched an investigation into the game. Any violations of fair play will be severely dealt with according to the law.”
