City goes 4th with draw away to Stoke

GARETH Barry scored a late equalizer as Manchester City drew 1-1 at 10-man Stoke City on Tuesday to move up to fourth in the English Premier League.

After Stoke had Abdoulaye Faye sent off for a professional foul on Emmanuel Adebayor in the 53rd minute, Glenn Whelan gave Stoke the lead in the 72nd at the Britannia Stadium with a 20-meter strike.

But Barry equalized in the 85th when Adebayor headed on a long ball, the England midfielder fired a shot against the post and then reacted quickest to touch home the rebound.

Stoke claimed a winner in injury time when Ryan Shawcross headed home from a typical long throw from Rory Delap. But referee Alan Wiley ruled it out for a foul on goalkeeper Shay Given.

"We should have beaten them at the end, the goal at the end was a good goal and its been taken away from us by a poor decision," said Stoke manager Tony Pulis.

The point lifted City above Liverpool into fourth place on 45 points, with a one-point advantage and a game in hand.

Roberto Mancini's side is, however, 13 points behind leader Chelsea.

The two sides also drew 1-1 in the fifth round of the FA Cup in Manchester last Saturday and will face each other for the third time in less than two weeks in their Cup replay back at the Britannia Stadium next week.
