City signs Clichy as Tevez confirms he wants out

CARLOS Tevez wants to leave Manchester City and move to a country where he can reunite with his wife and daughters.
The City captain issued a statement on Monday saying that "it is with great regret that I have to inform Manchester City of my wish to leave the club."
The Argentina striker, who is currently playing for Argentina in the Copa America, also handed in a transfer request in January but later withdrew it and helped City win the FA Cup and qualify for next season's Champions League. However, he seems unlikely to change his mind again after making it clear he wants to live in an environment where his wife Vanesa and their two daughters can feel at home.
Vanesa moved back to Argentina with the two girls after struggling to adapt to the British climate and culture.
"Living without my children in Manchester has been incredibly challenging for me," Tevez said. "Everything I do, I do for my daughters, Katie and Florencia. I need to be closer to them and to spend more time with them. I need them to be happy because my life is about them now. I need to be in a place where they can adapt."
He did not say where he plans to move.
Tevez joined City in 2009 from crosstown rival Manchester United, where he won two Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League. He was the captain as City beat Stoke 1-0 in May in the FA Cup final to end a 35-year spell without a major trophy.
"I hope that most of the City fans will understand that I have given them my all on the pitch and that my dedication to the city cause has been 100 percent on the pitch," Tevez said. "I hope I have done my bit to help City continue their progress towards their ambition to be champions of England and to advance in the Champions League."
Meanwhile, City signed left back Gael Clichy from Arsenal on a four-year contract on Monday.
Arsenal was forced to sell the 25-year-old Frenchman because he had only one year left on his contract and could have moved on a free transfer at the end of next season.
Clichy spent eight years at Arsenal after joining from Cannes in August 2003. His ability on the left of defense was one of the reasons the Gunners were able to allow England international Ashley Cole to make a high-profile switch to Chelsea three years later.
Clichy was backup to Cole when Arsenal won the 2003-04 Premier League title with an unbeaten record, making him at the time the youngest player to earn a Premier League winner's medal, aged 18. He was the last member of that squad still with the north London club. The transfer reunites Clichy with former Arsenal teammates Patrick Vieira and Kolo Toure.
