Corinthians beats Sport 4-3 in Brazilian league

RONALDO scored twice to lead Corinthians to a 4-3 victory over Sport in the Brazilian league yesterday.

Sport striker Fabiano opened the scoring with a powerful header in the 12th minute.

After outwitting and outrunning several Sport players, defender Andre Santos crossed to Ronaldo, who scored the equalizer with a header in the 28th.

Just seven minutes later, the Corinthians' star striker once again scored with a headed after receiving a ball from defender Diogo.

Midfielder Cristian made it 3-1 for Corinthians in the 49th minute.

Sport midfielder Vandinho narrowed the gap with a goal in the 63rd minute and just four minutes later scored again, making it 3-3.

In the 79th minute, defender Moradei gained possession of the ball and in midfield and, with a powerful shot into the right corner of Sport's net, scored the winning goal.

Meanwhile, Atletico Mineiro took No. 1 spot in the standings with a 2-0 win over defending champion Sao Paulo.

Striker Tardelli scored in the first minute. In the 52nd minute, Tardelli provided the last pass to midfielder Serginho, who scored Atletico's second goal.

Also on Thursday, Nautico and Vitoria had a 1-1 draw.

On Wednesday, Coritiba beat Gremio 2-1; Avai downed Goias 2-0; Santos and Barueri played to a 3-3 draw; Santo Andre beat Atletico Paranaense 1-0; Internacional downed Fluminense 4-2; and Palmeiras beat Flamengo 2-1.
