Coventry packs off Rovers from FA Cup

CHAMPIONSHIP struggler Coventry City beat a severely-weakened Blackburn Rovers 1-0 in their FA Cup fifth-round replay on Tuesday to set up a last-eight meeting with Chelsea.

Swansea City's giant-killing exploits ended though as Fulham came from behind to beat the Championship (second division) team 2-1 at Craven Cottage to secure a home quarterfinal with Manchester United.

Blackburn, in the Premier League relegation zone, needed an injury-time equalizer for a 2-2 draw in its first meeting and manager Sam Allardyce gave a clear indication of his priorities when he named an entirely new team from the lineup he put out against Manchester United at the weekend.

Coventry, however, was at just about full strength and got its reward after an hour when Aron Gunnarsson crossed and Leon Best connected with a firm header.

Rovers threw on Roque Santa Cruz and Stephen Warnock to try to turn the game but was unable to find the equalizer.

Swansea knocked out holders Portsmouth in the last round and was unfortunate to only draw 1-1 at home in its first meeting with Fulham.

It looked on course for a dream quarterfinal against the favorites when Jason Scotland prodded it into the lead at the start of the second half but Fulham hit back strongly and Clinton Dempsey leveled with a flying header after 77 minutes.

The Premier League side went all out for the winner and got it four minutes later through Bobby Zamora.
