De Gea banished amid sex abuse claims: Reports

IN a bombshell development, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has been sent home from Spain’s Euro 2016 squad, according to a report in London’s Independent daily.

Allegations in the Spanish press are said to have led to De Gea, 25, being dismissed from the Spain squad on the day of the opening fixture between France and Romania.

De Gea was named in Vicente del Bosque’s 23-man Spain squad for the European Championship, but a replacement will now be called up unless De Gea is reinstated.

De Gea was expected to be Spain’s first-choice goalkeeper at Euro 2016 after serving as deputy to Iker Casillas at the 2014 World Cup, having being named United’s Player of the Season for the third consecutive year last month.

De Gea has reportedly been implicated in a police probe into a porn director accused of running a child prostitution ring, according to reports.

A protected witness has implicated De Gea in an ongoing high-profile case centered on well-known X-rated film entrepreneur Ignacio Allende Fernandez.

The director — better known as ‘Torbe’ — was arrested and remanded in jail in April after being accused of running a prostitution ring and using under-age girls for his shoots. The unnamed witness reportedly told investigators she was sexually abused by two footballers in 2012 at a five-star hotel in Madrid. She said the two footballers — not including De Gea — were members of Spain’s under-21 team at the time.

According to reports in Spain, one is Atletico de Bilbao forward Iker Muniain but the woman was unable to identify the second player at the time. She said the meet had been arranged by de Gea and Torbe.

Meanwhile, host France was kicking off the Euro 2016 against Romania tipped as the favorite to win the trophy.

World Cup holder Germany, defending champion Spain and England’s young stars are all out to block Les Bleus, however.

French coach Didier Deschamps lifted the World Cup as captain 18 years ago and has assembled a young, attacking side, including Paul Pogba, one of Europe’s most wanted players.

“If you want to go far in the competition clearly you need to have great attacking potential,” said Deschamps ahead of the Group A game.

“I picked these players. I know their qualities, there are players with different characteristics, we’ve been able to score a lot of goals and create a lot of problems for the opponents.”

Despite attempts by Deschamps and France captain Hugo Lloris to dampen expectations, Romania coach Anghel Iordanescu put France among the front-runners.
