Dortmund hires Bosz from Ajax

BORUSSIA Dortmund hired coach Peter Bosz from Ajax Amsterdam yesterday, a week after firing Thomas Tuchel.

Dortmund said the 53-year-old Dutchman, who speaks fluent German, would get a two-year contract.

Bosz is joining Dortmund after one season at Ajax. He transformed the Dutch club into a dynamic team of young players who push forward in attack and are just as aggressive in defense.

Ajax finished second to Feyenoord in the Dutch league and reached the Europa League final, losing to Manchester United 0-2.

Dortmund finished third in the Bundesliga, securing a place in the UEFA Champions League, and won the German Cup after an inconsistent season. It then fired Tuchel, who had fallen out with the club’s management.

During his playing career, Bosz briefly played in the Bundesliga for Hansa Rostock in the late 1990s.

Meanwhile, former AS Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has reached a deal to take over at Inter Milan, with the club’s Chinese owners hoping he can restore the former European champion to prominence.

“I’m pleased to be the new coach of Inter,” Spalletti said yesterday at Milan’s Malpensa airport before flying to meet Inter’s owners in China. “It’s all done. We shook hands.”

The Suning retail group purchased a majority stake in Inter a year ago.

The deal is reportedly for two years and worth 4 million euros (US$4.5 million) per season. It comes a week after Spalletti departed Roma, having guided the Giallorossi to a runner-up finish in Serie A.

Inter has not yet announced the deal but the move was widely expected considering Spalletti’s relationship with Inter technical coordinator Walter Sabatini, who also recently joined from Roma.

Spalletti would be Inter’s 5th coach in less than a year.
