Dortmund stuns Bayern, Ronaldo tricks
BORUSSIA Dortmund stunned champion and arch-rival Bayern Munich 1-0 on Saturday in a bad-tempered “Der Klassiker” clash to leave RB Leipzig the shock Bundesliga leader.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang prodded in on 11 minutes at a frenzied Signal Iduna Park to propel Dortmund up to third on 21 points, three points behind Bayern, for whom this was a first defeat of the league season.
RB Leipzig is top, unbeaten and three points clear of the mighty Bayern, after a thrilling 3-2 win at Bayer Leverkusen on Friday signalled another milestone in its fast rise to the top of German football.
Bayern captain Philipp Lahm admitted that neutrals would be delighted to see someone other than the Bavarians at the top. “It’s good for the Bundesliga, it’s what the whole world wanted,” he added bitterly.
In Spain, Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick and Real Madrid handed rival Atletico a painful 3-0 loss in its last Spanish league derby before leaving Vicente Calderon Stadium next season. The victory also snapped Madrid’s six-game winless streak against the city rival, and gave the club a four-point lead over Barcelona.
Barcelona was unable to overcome the absence of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in a 0-0 draw at Camp Nou, a result that ended its home scoring streak that started in February 2015.
Madrid’s gap to Atletico increased to nine points, putting the rival’s title chances in jeopardy after only 12 matches.
Sevilla moved to third after a 3-2 win at Deportivo La Coruna.
