Draw edges Napoli closer to Champions League
AC Milan's Mathieu Flamini went from hero to zero as he first scored and was then sent off in the 1-1 draw at home to Champions League rival Napoli.
Flamini opened the scoring with his second goal of the season on the half-hour, but Goran Pandev brought the visitors level in the 33rd minute. The Frenchman then went on to get himself sent off in the second half.
The draw means Milan has just six matches to make up a four point gap on second-placed Napoli if it is to achieve Champions League qualification.
Earlier on Sunday, a spectacular long range effort from Brazilian Matuzalem 10 minutes from time earned Genoa a vital point in its bid to avoid relegation after a 1-1 draw against derby rival Sampdoria. Inter Milan's slim hopes of snatching a Champions League spot is all but over after it lost 0-2 to Cagliari. It has been leapfrogged by Roma, which beat Torino 2-1.
In Spain, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 49th and 50th goals in all competitions this season as Real Madrid won 3-0 at Athletic Bilbao, while Barcelona didn't need Lionel Messi to brush aside Real Zaragoza 3-0 and ease closer to the Spanish league title.
Ronaldo opened with a dipping free kick two minutes in and scored again in the 69th, before passing for Gonzalo Higuain to net a third in the 76th.
Barcelona's own convincing victory led by a double from 21-year-old forward Cristian Tello kept it 13 points clear of Madrid with seven rounds to go.
