Drogba is Africa footballer of 2009
DIDIER Drogba was named Africa's footballer of the year for the second time on Thursday, his 32nd birthday.
Drogba, the Ivory Coast captain and Chelsea striker, received the 2009 award from the African Football Confederation, topping a vote by Africa's national coaches. Also shortlisted were his club teammate Michael Essien of Ghana, and Inter Milan's Samuel Eto'o of Cameroon, a three-time recipient. Drogba previously won the award in 2006, and was second in 2007. He missed attending those awards because he was at the African Cup of Nations.
