East Asia enjoys big derby win

WU Lei's hat-trick and two assists helped Shanghai East Asia to torpedo Shanghai Shenxin 6-1 in a local derby last night.

The big away win also brought its five-game losing streak to an end.

The 22-year-old Wu has scored eight goals in the past 12 games, ranking him third in the CSL's list of top scorers.

"Maybe Shenxin didn't pay enough attention to us as we had lost five games straight," said East Asia's coach Gao Hongbo. "In fact I was worried before the game and thought it could be sixth straight but my players did a great job."

"Wu has earned his position in the national team. He has been outstanding and knows how to adjust his shape," Gao added.

East Asia climbed to 12th in the 16-team league. Shenxin is in 11th.

The city's other club, Shanghai Shenhua, remained in ninth after a 2-2 draw with Guizhou Renhe on Saturday.

Elsewhere over the weekend, Wuhan Zall tied 1-1 with Qingdao Jonoon, Changchun Yatai was held 2-2 by Guangzhou R&F, Beijing Guo'an trounced Liaoning Whowin 4-0, Dalian Aerbin edged Tianjin Teda 1-0, Jiangsu Sainty beat Hangzhou Greentown 2-1 and league leader Guangzhou Evergrande tied 0-0 with Shandong Luneng.
