Eto'o threat to skip World Cup

CAMEROON striker Samuel Eto'o has threatened not to go to next month's World Cup in South Africa after criticism about his performances for the team from former international Roger Milla.

"Is it worth me going to the World Cup?" Inter Milan's Eto'o told French TV channel Canal Plus Sport late on Friday. "I still have a few days to think about it but I will see if my participation is important because I don't need this in my career."

Milla, who scored four goals as Cameroon reached the World Cup quarterfinals in 1990, said earlier this week Eto'o had done a lot for Barcelona and Inter but nothing for his national side.

Eto'o, who has scored 44 goals in 94 appearances for the Indomitable Lions, added: "What has he (Milla) done? He did not win the World Cup. They played in a quarterfinal and with what a team.

"And you wonder, 'are they my people?' Are they really my people?"

Cameroon is drawn in Group E for the June 11-July 11 tournament with the Netherlands, Denmark and Japan.

Meanwhile, Diego Maradona and his Argentina squad arrived in South Africa yesterday, looking jet-lagged as they were greeted by media at the Johannesburg airport.

The Denmark squad also arrived soon after before catching a connecting flight to its team base in Cape Town.

Maradona blew a kiss to reporters at the O R Tambo International Airport, saying, "Hola, South Africa. I love South Africa."

The Argentina coach did not stop to take questions before leaving for his team's base at the High Performance Centre in the capital Pretoria, just north of Johannesburg.

Lionel Messi was also subdued on his first appearance in South Africa. Wearing a white baseball cap, the Barcelona forward and did not react to requests from the assembled media for a smile or a wave.

Argentina faces Nigeria, South Korea and Greece in the group stages in South Africa. The two-time World Cup winner begins its campaign against Nigeria on June 12.
