FIFA reveals World Cup ticketing changes
Fans wishing to attend next year's World Cup have the option of receiving tickets at home, world football's governing body FIFA said yesterday.
Tickets for football's showpiece tournament in Brazil were due to go on sale online today, FIFA's marketing director Thierry Weil said during a press conference.
The change to the ticket pick-up process comes after fans faced long queues during this year's Confederations Cup.
"Fans will have the chance to choose between picking up their tickets in distribution centers or have them delivered to their homes, in any part of the world," Weil said.
"We have learnt from the Confederations Cup and, in order to improve the sales system, we have decided to open more distribution points in places with easy access for the population," he added.
Almost one million tickets will be available during the first phase of sales, which closes on October 10.
Priority will be given to pensioners, students and low-income earners registered in social welfare programs.
