Fabiano's 2 rescue point for Sevilla

SEVILLA striker Luis Fabiano scored twice in the second-half to give his side a 2-2 draw in the Andalucian derby at home to struggling Malaga in La Liga on Saturday.

The visitors, who started the day bottom and without a win in 12 consecutive matches in all competitions, had taken a surprise 2-0 first-half lead through Fernando and Duda.

Sevilla stays third with 26 points, but it has missed out on the chance to put pressure on the top two, who were meeting for the first 'clasico' of the season yesterday.

Leader Real Madrid, with 28 points, visits the Nou Camp with a one-point advantage over arch-rival and champion Barcelona. Valencia also failed to capitalize when it conceded a late penalty to be held 1-1 at home by Real Mallorca. It is fourth on 25 points.

Villarreal goalkeeper Diego Lopez kept out two penalties against Sporting Gijon but could not prevent his side slipping to a 0-1 defeat.

In Italy, a vibrant 10-man Genoa outclassed city rival Sampdoria 3-0 in a fast and furious Serie A derby on Saturday in which three players were sent off.

The victory meant joint-fifth Genoa moved within one point of Samp in fourth ahead of yesterday's main program of games.

Midfielder Omar Milanetto converted a 10th-minute penalty after Reto Ziegler tripped Rodrigo Palacio.

Domenico Criscito then rattled the bar with a header before Genoa teammate Giuseppe Biava naively handled the ball just before the break and was sent off having already been booked. Despite the dismissal, Gian Piero Gasperini's side continued to dominate and captain Marco Rossi netted early in the second period after a quick counter-attack.

Sampdoria namesake Marco Rossi was then sent off for a second yellow and Genoa's Raffaele Palladino, who angered rival players and fans with his celebration, made it 3-0 from the spot after Ziegler again committed a foul.

Early season leader Samp lost Fabrizio Cacciatore to a straight red for a nasty tackle late on.

Also, mid-table Udinese secured a 2-0 home win over lowly Livorno.
