Fabregas ruled out for the season
Arsenal's Premier League title challenge was dealt a huge blow yesterday when captain Cesc Fabregas was ruled out for at least six weeks with a cracked bone in his leg.
"Cesc will miss the remainder of the domestic campaign as he will be out of action for at least six weeks," Arsenal said on its Website.
The Spain midfielder suffered a crack in his right fibula after a collision with Barcelona defender Carles Puyol in Wednesday's 2-2 Champions League quarterfinal first leg draw.
Fabregas has been in sparkling form for third-placed Arsenal this season, scoring 19 goals in all competitions.
The 22-year-old should recover in time to play at least some part in Spain's World Cup campaign in South Africa this year.
The midfielder said after the match that he believed he broke his right leg. Fabregas thought he had damaged his fibula when he was fouled by Carlos Puyol - making it worse when he took the penalty kick with force.
Arsenal forward Andrey Arshavin is also out for a spell after he was substituted early with what Wenger said was a calf injury.
Manchester United meanwhile said that striker Wayne Rooney suffered "minor ligament damage" to his ankle.
"We're pleased to report that Wayne has not suffered a fracture. The scan revealed only minor ligament damage," a United spokesman said.
Rooney, who has scored 34 goals this season, sparked fears that he would miss England's World Cup campaign when he limped out of United's 1-2 quarterfinal first-leg defeat at Bayern Munich.
The 24-year-old turned his right ankle in the final moments of the match.
