Flu hits Donovan

LOS Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan tested positive for what was believed to be swine flu, and his teammates are taking precautions. Donovan was to be evaluated by a doctor on Friday and Saturday, the team said. Donovan did not practice on Friday after playing all 90 minutes for the United States in a 1-2 loss to Mexico in World Cup qualifying on Wednesday in Mexico City. The United States Soccer Federation said Donovan joined the national team on August 9 in Miami, three days before the game. It also said that no other players expressed or showed signs of flu-like symptoms while in camp. But Hannover defender Steve Cherundolo has been placed in quarantine due to Donovan's positive test. Cherundolo also played for the US against Mexico. Cherundolo was isolated from Hannover teammates upon his return and is expected to remain under observation until next week.
