A MASKED gunman shot dead a soccer player as he turned up for training in southeast London. The 36-year-old man had gone to Sparrows Den playing fields in West Wickham which is used by amateur clubs on Thursday evening when he was shot. Police said the suspect, who was wearing a balaclava and a mask over his face, had been waiting nearby and rode off on a mountain bike afterwards. The motive for the attack was not yet clear.
