FRANCE is making a bid to host the Euro 2016 championships, but has ruled out co-hosting the event with Italy.
The French football federation said on its Website yesterday that it will submit a bid to UEFA before the March 9 deadline, saying hosting the tournament would provide a good opportunity to modernize the country's football stadiums. Also, federation head Jean-Pierre Escalettes dismissed reports that France could submit a joint bid with Italy. "There is no question of associating with Italy," Escalettes told L'Equipe. "We will go it alone, in order to win."
